Comedy in South Africa has over the years developed extensively, this according to renowned comedian David Kau. He says the growth of the sector has allowed South Africans to laugh past developments that have plagued the country.

“We’ve laughed through elections, power cuts and pandemics, years later, we’re still standing and still laughing,” says Kau.

One of the platforms that have allowed for the development of the sector is one of South Africa’s long-standing comedy show, Blacks Only Comedy. The show is celebrating 21 years of unfiltered laughter, entertainment and cultural commentary. Kau who is a founder and host of the show, says, Blacks Only is a once in a generation event not to be missed. The highly anticipated show will take place on Saturday, 11 October, in Pretoria.

The milestone event has grown into one the country’s well-known comedy stages, offering platform to some of the country’s popular comedians. Kau says the 21st anniversary is a token of how far local comedy has come and how laughter continues to bring people together.

This edition of Blacks Only is expected to deliver bold humour, sharp satire, and fresh takes on everyday life in South Africa, all delivered by a cross-section of the country’s finest stand-up artists.

This upcoming edition features names including Mpho Popps, Skhumba, Celeste Ntuli, Chris Forrest, Ntosh Madlingozi, Dillan Oliphant, Mbali Gudazi, Kagiso KG Mokgadi, Mark Banks, Roni Modimola, Robby Collins, Alan Committie and Kau as MC.
