Nine UFS students to appear in court on public violence charges – SABC News

Nine University of the Free State students are expected to make their first appearance in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday on charges of pubic violence.
They were arrested on Thursday during protests on the university’s main campus in Bloemfontein.
The protests follow the university’s announcement that it has scrapped provisional registration.
Students who have been protesting since Wednesday say they were not consulted.
The decision will affect students from all three of the university’s campuses.
SRC member Elizabeth Thulo says they will meet with management soon to discuss the issue.
“Currently, there is an ongoing meeting with the SRC to re-discuss the issue of provisional registration. So, we are yet to receive an update after 12 o’clock. Right now, there is nothing happening on campus. It’s a bit calm. So, then we will have a way forward after we receive communication from the SRC on what’s gonna happen afterwards.”
