NPA seizes R2.7m in assets from Matlosana municipal CFO, five others – SABC News

The Matlosana Business Chamber in Klerksdorp says it is concerned about alleged corruption in the Matlosana Local Municipality, North West.

This is after the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Assets Forfeiture Unit obtained a preservation order to seize the assets of the municipality’s Chief Financial Officer, Mercy Phetla and five others.

The assets, which include luxury vehicles, are worth R2,7 million. The municipality allegedly paid a supplier R6 million for services not rendered between September 2023 and January 2024.

The chamber’s Johan Oosthuisen says he is concerned about the corruption allegations.

“We are very concerned about these ongoing allegations and it seems that the investigations are now exposing corruption in our municipality. That is why we are very concerned. The way officials are behaving does not favour business at all and this is despite Klerksdorp being labeled as a development hub in the province.
