Stormers defence dominates in lime burst
The Stormers’ new lime away kit turned heads in Llanelli, but it was their ruthless set piece and smothering defence that shut out the Scarlets 34-0, writes MARK KEOHANE.
Writing for the Sunday Times, Keohane says the jersey’s design – inspired by the vibrant Bo-Kaap – was matched by the vibrancy of the performance.
“The two combined to make the biggest of statements in Llanelli,” he notes, with the Stormers securing a third straight win to start the season and conceding just 10 points in 240 minutes.
REPORT: Stormers outclass Scarlets
Defence coach Norman Laker again led the charge. His system “was suffocating, desperate and brave,” Keohane writes, after the Stormers recorded shutouts against Leinster and the Scarlets.
Laker’s long-standing partnership with John Dobson, Dawie Snyman and Rito Hlungwani remains at the heart of the team’s identity.
Brok Harris’ seamless transition into scrum coaching helped deliver a dominant set piece, while Springbok stars Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Damian Willemse added flair off the bench just six days after their Rugby Championship triumph.
No 8 Evan Roos was immense again, scoring his fourth try of the season and “as big a presence as the Eiffel Tower is to Paris”.
DOBBO: A lot of tears in Stormers change room
With youth and experience blending seamlessly, the Stormers’ start to the season has been emphatic.
