PLK woman runs 500km to raise awareness on GBV – SABC News

A female runner has embarked on a more than 500km race from Pretoria to Thohoyandou, Limpopo, against gender-based violence.

Polokwane-based runner Joyce Netshitenzhe says her solo run is aimed at starting dialogue in communities on the effects of the violence. She is using the R101 road and is expected to reach Thohoyandou via Giyani towards the end of this month.

Netshitenzhe says she’s striving for safer communities.

“I am doing this awareness campaign because gender-based violence affects women, men and children. Too many people are living in pain, silence and fear. I want to raise awareness and open conversation and remind everyone that violence is never the answer. We must all stand together, men and women, to build safer homes, stronger communities, and a future free from abuse,” she adds.
