UPDATE : One KZN light aircraft found, search continues for second – SABC News

The chief of the Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre, Gregory Critchley, says one of the two light aircraft missing along the misty Nottingham Road in Howick in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands has been located.

The crash was confirmed by the Midlands Emergency Medical Services.

Critchley has also confirmed that the pilot was found dead at the scene, adding that search and rescue operations continue for the other missing plane.

Rescue teams are continuing the search for a light aircraft in the Nottingham Road area of Howick, in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands.

The Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre received a Mayday call at the air traffic control centre. A search was immediately mounted. However, efforts are being hindered by traffic congestion and poor visibility, making it challenging for rescue teams to reach the potential crash site.

The search operation is being led by the SAPS, assisted by emergency services.

The Road Traffic Inspectorate is also helping with traffic control in the area.
