KZN Legislature celebrates fifth consecutive Clean Audit Award for accountability and integrity
The Auditor-General of South Africa, Tsakani Maluleke, said that the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Legislature achieved its fifth consecutive Clean Audit Award
On Friday, Maluleke briefed members of the KZN Legislature on the 2024/25 Provincial Government Audit Outcomes, Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), and Financial Management of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures Act (FMPPLA).
Maluleke presented Nontembeko Boyce, speaker of the KZN Legislature, with a Clean Audit Award, marking the Legislature’s fifth consecutive clean audit, a reflection of sound governance, accountability, and financial integrity.
Boyce stated that the AGSA plays a crucial role in promoting accountability, transparency, and good governance across all levels of government.
She stated that the AGSA’s guidance, professionalism, and consistent oversight enable institutions like the legislature to continually improve and maintain the standards expected of custodians of public funds.
“We are proud to have once again received a clean audit opinion for the 2024/25 financial year. This achievement reflects not only compliance with financial management standards, but more importantly, a deep culture of integrity and accountability that runs through our institution.”
Boyce commended the Legislature Secretary, Nerusha Naidoo, and the entire management team and staff for their continued dedication and excellence.
“Achieving and maintaining a clean audit requires discipline, teamwork, and a shared commitment to doing what is right, not just for audits, but because it is the right thing to do. Accountability should never be seen as exceptional; it should be our norm. What deserves celebration is the ethical culture and responsible leadership that make such outcomes possible, year after year,” she said.
Boyce said they would not only reflect on audit outcomes, but also learn, improve, and strengthen the systems that safeguard public trust.
Dr Imran Keeka, MPL and chief whip to the DA in the KZN Legislature, said this remarkable achievement reflects sound governance, accountability, and financial integrity.
He said that securing a clean audit for five consecutive years is a testament to the institution’s commitment to these principles.
“As a proud partner within KZN’s Government of Provincial Unity (GPU), the DA remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the Legislature. Upholding accountability and transparency are essential for democracy to thrive within the rule of law,” Keeka said.
He added that accountability must never be the exception but the norm.
He said that the Legislature, empowered by the Constitution, legislation, and its own rules, must continue to serve as the bastion of good governance, placing the citizens of the KZN province first.
“Here, principles must always trump politics, and public service must remain our foremost duty.”
