WATCH| Witness B to continue testimony about Transnet corruption | Madlanga Commission
The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry resumed today with Witness B testifying behind closed doors at a secure location, as investigators continue probing explosive allegations linking bribery, murder, and state capture at Transnet.
Witness B, whose identity is being protected for safety reasons, is providing key testimony following Wednesday’s revelations of a plot to murder engineer Armand Swart, who was gunned down in Vereeniging on April 17, 2024.
The witness detailed how Lucky Molefe, nephew of notorious underworld figure Katiso “KT” Molefe, allegedly masterminded a rigged Transnet tender process that favoured the SK Group, a company tied directly to him.
The tender was described as a “sham competition” designed to sideline legitimate suppliers and funnel lucrative contracts to Molefe’s associates.
According to the witness, the Molefe network’s influence extended beyond corruption to attempts at covering up Swart’s killing.
Earlier in the week, Witness A testified that Molefe paid R2.5 million in bribes to secure bail, despite facing multiple murder charges and a 20-year criminal trail abroad involving fake passports, firearms, and narcotics.
Witness A further alleged that General Richard Shibiri of the National Organised Crime Unit facilitated the bail approval through bribery, allegedly offering “three envelopes” to the magistrate, prosecutor, and investigating officers.
The Commission is expected to continue hearing confidential testimony.
