Gauteng Education condemns stabbing of learner at Boksburg High – SABC News

The Gauteng Department of Education says it is deeply disturbed by a stabbing incident at Boksburg High School in Ekurhuleni, where a group of boys allegedly jumped over the fence and stabbed a Grade 9 learner.

The department has also received a report of bullying at Oos-Rand School of Specialisation in Boksburg and condemned a video showing a girl learner being assaulted by a boy at Christian Progressive College in Pretoria.

In a separate incident, an educator assistant and a general assistant have been suspended after a Grade 5 learner was injured at Dimakatso Primary School in Soshanguve on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Steve Mabona says the boys involved in the stabbing are in police custody.

“Eight boys were involved in the attack. They have since been arrested and are currently detained at Boksburg Police Station. The injured learner is receiving medical attention. The GDE’s Psychosocial Support Unit has been dispatched to the school to provide trauma counselling and support to the victim, classmates, and educators. The department is working closely with the South African Police Service (SAPS) to ensure that justice is served and that safety measures at the school are reviewed and strengthened. Chiloane condemned the incident and reiterated the department’s zero-tolerance stance on school violence. He urged the community to assist in making sure that we don’t see such incidents in our school,” says Mabona.

Meanwhile, the NPA says the bail extended to six of the eight learners from Milnerton High School in Cape Town, allegedly involved in a violent bullying incident comes with strict conditions.

The Cape Town Magistrates’ Court granted them bail of R2000 each.

Two others appeared in juvenile court and were released on warning.

The accused have been suspended from school following a video which went viral showing a Grade 10 learner being assaulted with various objects including a hockey stick.

NPA Spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila, says their bail conditions ban them from entering the school premises.

“One of the conditions that we were waiting for, we got an instruction or directive from the Department of Education in the Western Cape that they will provide an alternative place for them to write exams. They will have to study at home but they will have to go to the Northern District to write exams and the matter has been postponed to the 20th of January 2026 to give them enough time to study and finish with their examsm,” says Ntabazalila.
