Heyneke’s new SA side set to soar

Millions of rands are set to be pumped into Heyneke Meyer’s new provincial union.

According to Rapport, the SWD Eagles are set to appoint Meyer as director of rugby, with UXi Sport lined up as an equity partner prepared to inject significant funding into the Southern Cape. A final decision is expected as early as next week.

UXi Sport has already received strong backing from local clubs, and the next step is securing SA Rugby’s approval. A legal team representing the company is due to meet with the union in the coming days.

Meyer, who first made his coaching name in George before moving on to the Bulls and the Springboks, is reportedly determined to restore Outeniqua Park to its former glory.

Business leaders and potential sponsors have already expressed interest, while several players have indicated a willingness to move to George.

Plans for an international academy are also being discussed – with Meyer’s arrival widely viewed as a turning point for the union.

If approved, the project could mirror Boland’s recent rise in South African rugby.
