Transnet set to sign deal to bring back Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe – SABC News

Transnet is set to host an official signing ceremony on Monday at George in the Western Cape, paving the way for the reintroduction of the iconic Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe.

The steam train is finally making a comeback after being out of use since the 2006 floods severely damaged the rail line between George and Knysna.

Transnet granted Classic Rail access to the line recently, following a seemingly never-ending struggle that lasted for almost two decades.

It has acquired all the necessary contracts and has found much-needed funding partners to rebuild the line between George and Knysna, and to relaunch and run the Choo-Tjoe as a tourist attraction.
