Wallabies big guns return for Twickenham battle

Taniela Tupou has been recalled to the Wallabies starting XV, while Harry Wilson regains the captain’s armband for Saturday’s Test against England at Twickenham.

Tupou will start at tighthead prop for the first time since the Bledisloe opener in Auckland, packing down alongside Angus Bell and Billy Pollard in a powerful front row.

Coach Joe Schmidt has kept faith in the Jake Gordon-Tane Edmed halfback pairing for a third consecutive Test, while Hunter Paisami and Joseph Suaalii reunite in midfield – the latter returning to the venue where he made his Wallabies debut last year.

Wilson leads the side from No 8, forming a familiar loose trio with Rob Valetini and Fraser McReight, while Harry Potter and Max Jorgensen return on the wings and Andrew Kellaway continues at fullback.

In the tight five, Nick Frost and Jeremy Williams resume their combination in the second row – the pair having previously started together when the Wallabies faced England at Twickenham last season.

Among the replacements, Allan Alaalatoa is set for his 86th Test off the bench, joining Josh Nasser and Tom Robertson as the front-row cover. Lukhan Salakaia-Loto returns from injury to provide lock cover, while Nick Champion de Crespigny fills the back-row role.

Ryan Lonergan and Hamish Stewart will feature in Europe for the first time, with Filipo Daugunu rounding out the match 23.

“The group travelled well to London earlier in the week and have had a couple of good sessions ahead of this weekend’s Test,” said Schmidt.

“We’ve tried to balance this year’s tough schedule in terms of matches and travel, so it was great to freshen a few players up last week – we hope that allows the group to be really competitive on Saturday.”
