KZN on alert as a thunderstorm warning follows Newcastle flooding – SABC News
KwaZulu-Natal disaster management teams remain on high alert after the Weather Service issued a warning that severe thunderstorms may occur over the western parts of the province.
This comes after a severe thunderstorm, accompanied by heavy hail and strong winds, caused widespread flooding and damage in Newcastle yesterday.
A Yellow Level 4 warning has been issued for today, which poses a low risk of significant impact, including flooding, hail and damage to infrastructure.
Provincial Cooperative Governance Department spokesperson, Senzelwe Mzila, says teams are helping to restore essential services after Sunday’s storm.
“Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution as the Level 4 severe thunderstorms warnings could cause flooding and also bring with it hail in these areas. Disaster management teams will continue to monitor closely all of these areas and residents are urged to exercise extreme caution.”
