Popular Limpopo musician Shebeshxt arrested for attempted murder
Limpopo musician Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, well-known as Shebeshxt, was arrested on Wednesday morning on two counts of attempted murder following a shooting incident in Polokwane last month, police confirmed.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the arrest took place at about 9:30am.
He was nabbed during an intelligence-driven operation in the upmarket suburb of Bendor, outside Polokwane.
“The arrest was executed through a joint operation between the Provincial Investigation Unit and the Provincial Tracking Team, following the issuance of a warrant of arrest linked to a case of two counts of attempted murder registered at Westernburg SAPS,” Ledwaba said.
He added that the arrest of the “Ambulance” hitmaker stemmed from an incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, October 19, 2025, along Witklip Street in Ladanna, outside Polokwane.
“It is alleged that the suspect had a confrontation with another motorist, during which he fired several shots at another vehicle, injuring a 34-year-old male occupant, who was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries,” Ledwaba said.
The case was initially opened at Westernburg SAPS and later transferred to the Provincial Investigation Unit for further investigation.
“Detectives successfully obtained a warrant of arrest on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, leading to the suspect’s apprehension,” he said.
During the operation, police also seized the suspect’s vehicles for forensic analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the investigation and operational teams for their swift work.
“We are taking this matter very seriously, and a dedicated team was appointed to ensure that no stone is left unturned,” Hadebe said.
“The South African Police Service reiterates that no one is above the law, regardless of their social standing,” she added.
Shebeshxt, loved by many for his hits including Ke “Di Shxt Malume,” is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 13, 2025, on charges of attempted murder.
This is not the first time the rapper has faced legal trouble.
Earlier this year, a video circulated on social media showing him in an altercation involving a large knife.
In the footage, Shebeshxt appears agitated as he unzips his Nike jacket, pulls out an object resembling a knife and lunges toward another individual.
In 2022, the rapper was charged with attempted murder after being accused of stabbing a man in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo.
Shebeshxt has not yet commented publicly on the latest allegations.
Last year, he buried his daughter, Onthatile Gladys Chuene, who died in an accident while travelling with him on June 9 to perform at the ANC Siyanqoba Rally celebration concert in Lebowakgomo.
Lekompo, the genre Shebeshxt is associated with, is an emerging South African dance music subgenre from Limpopo that blends traditional sounds with modern production and house music elements.
