Missing Richards Bay pensioner's car found
THE family of missing Richards Bay pensioner Ranjankumar Sew, 57, widely known as Boya, is holding onto hope for his safe return after two men found driving his vehicle were nabbed.
It is alleged the family had received an anonymous call demanding R5 000.
Sew disappeared after he left his home in Brackenham to visit the clinic on Tuesday morning.
He was driving his white Toyota Avanza.
His vehicle was found in Mtunzini yesterday. Two suspects were arrested.
Sew’s family, who became concerned when he did not return home that day, opened a missing person’s case.
Prem Balram, the head of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), said Sew’s family had received information that the vehicle was seen at various locations and captured on a camera near the Dondotha Reserve in Kwambonambi.
“We believe he was hijacked and kidnapped. The area was searched with negative results. The family has since received an anonymous call demanding R5 000 before the car was stripped. It could not be established if the call was made by a scammer after the vehicle was circulated missing or the suspect himself.
“Sew’s vehicle was recovered and two people were arrested. We cannot reveal any other information as the police investigation is ongoing,” said Balram.
Sew’s brother-in-law, Louie Naidoo, said Sew was a retired salesman.
“He is clean-shaven, balding with no tattoos. At the time of his disappearance, he was dressed in a grey shirt and blue jeans. We were notified that two suspects were arrested, and the vehicle was recovered in Mtunzini. We hope these suspects will lead police to Boya.
“Our family is still praying for the best. We are praying for his safe return. Boya is unmarried with no children. He is a humble man. We hope the police find him. We urge anyone with information to come forward,” Naidoo said.
KZN police had not responded at the time of print.
