MPs accuse Cedrick Nkabinde of misleading them
The Chief of Staff of the Police Ministry Cedrick Nkabinde, who is a witness before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee, has come under fire from MPs who accuse of misleading them.
The committee is investigating allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the justice system.
Nkabinde had trouble providing clarity to the committee on the sequence of events when he made contact with the controversial North West businessman, Brown Mogotsi.
During an exchange with EFF leader Julius Malema, Nkabinde told MPs that because he did not have his gadgets with him when writing his statement, he could not give accurate dates.
Nkabinde says he was a very close friend of KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Mkhwanazi had told the committee that Nkabinde confessed to him that he was offered the post of chief of staff by Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
Mkhwanazi further told MPs, that it was Nkabinde who told him that Mchunu and controversial businessman, Brown Mogotsi, were very close.
Nkabinde explained his relationship with Mkhwanazi to MPs.
“I can give some examples of why I say Mkhwanazi and I are very close friends, he helped me to get a job while unemployed. Second, he had a bereavement in the family, I flew down to KZN to support him. When I arrived, he drove with me in my car, he even left his driver to drive with me.”
