Palestine Embassy cautions against unofficial travel intermediaries

The Palestine Embassy in South Africa has advised its people from Gaza to be vigilant when engaging organisations or any unofficial intermediaries when traveling for whatever reasons.

In a statement, the Embassy says travel arrangements of the group of more than  100 people who arrived in South Africa on Thursday, seeking refugee status, were arranged by an unregistered and misleading organisation.

The embassy says this organisation exploited the tragic humanitarian conditions of the people in Gaza, deceived families, collected money from them, and facilitated their travel in an irregular and irresponsible manner.

However, the Embassy has appreciated the sovereign and human decision of the South African government to grant 90-day entry visas for those who opted to stay in South Africa.
