SANTACO mourns the passing of first democratically elected president Khorommbi Muofhe
The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) has announced the passing of its first democratically elected President, Khorommbi Thomas Tshisikwawe Muofhe.
Muofhe’s journey within the taxi industry began in his hometown of Nzhelele, where he established himself as a powerful leader. His efforts paved the way for the founding and unification of taxi associations that are now recognised parts of the Vhembe region in Limpopo province.
SANTACO said as the Chairperson of the Venda Taxi Association in HaTshivhasa, Muofhe successfully guided local operators during periods of significant growth, shaping a robust foundational structure for future development in the region.
Muofhe’s influence expanded as he took on a senior leadership role within the South African Black Taxi Association (SABTA). He was committed to championing unity and advancing the operators’ interests across the northern province.
His leadership continued to evolve when he became the first Chairperson of the Vhembe District Taxi Council, playing a pivotal role in consultations that helped form a unified structure for operators across the province.
Under Muofhe’s leadership, SATACO transformed into SANTACO. He was elected as its first President during the conference in Durban in 2001, helping to establish democratic governance structures for the taxi industry.
Muofhe was influential in creating SANTACO’s business wing, now known as Taxichoice. He worked closely with industry visionaries to expand the economic footprint of the taxi industry, leaving a lasting impact on its future.
Current President Abnar Tsebe acknowledged his unwavering commitment to unity, stating that his example inspires continued collaboration for stability and dignity within the taxi industry.
