Search efforts intensify for two missing residents after KZN floods
Search and rescue teams have resumed their search for two missing New Hanover residents after heavy rains ravaged the area over the weekend.
On Monday, teams recovered the body of a woman while two more, a man and a woman, remain missing.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, said rescue teams are also being guided by drone technology to help recover the missing bodies.
“The multi-agency teams, including SAPS Search and Rescue, are utilising drone technology and working with partners such as the Alimdaad Foundation and Gift of the Givers to support the ongoing efforts,” he said.
Meanwhile, disaster management teams have been deployed to the uMshwathi Local Municipality and the uMgungundlovu District to assist affected residents.
The teams will focus on providing essential supplies to affected households, coordinating short-term housing solutions for displaced families in consultation with the relevant line function department, and working closely with the uMshwathi Local Municipality to ensure immediate needs are met.
