Bail revoked for businessman Rameez Patel, convicted of wife’s murder – SABC News

Bail granted to the convicted businessman found guilty of murder has been revoked by the Polokwane High Court in Limpopo. Ten years ago, the convicted businessman, Rameez Patel was granted R250,000 bail.

He has been found guilty of killing his wife, Fatima Patel in Nirvana, Polokwane, in April 2015.

Judge Joseph Raulinga revoked his bail after the guilty verdict.

Delivering his judgement, Judge Joseph Raulinga described Patel as a pathological liar. He says the witnesses corroborated in their testimonies that Patel owned gun.

Raulinga says the accused might have misled the police during the inspection-in-loco at the crime scene as he was speaking in a foreign language not understood by the police.

In his judgement Judge Raulinga he said, “The court views the accused as a pathological liar. It is also ingenious of him to say that plastic bag containing such clothing was handed to Nkuna in a plastic bag when we know fully well that not all clothes were handed in by the accused.”

Judge Raulinga said that the brother of the businessman, Razeen Patel, received death threats. The judge further said that Razeen had told the court that his sibling, Rameez Patel, had threatened to kill him if he disclosed the murder incident.

“He threatened to kill me if I decide to tell anyone. I told my parents. I told my dad about two days, three days before he died. I told my mother some few weeks before she died. My mom was shot in our house in Nirvana. I then decided to approach the police. I then informed the police about the threats and the confession.”

Revoking Rameez Patel’s bail, the judge said, “I have found the accused guilty, bail is revoked. The matter is rolled over to tomorrow for application for extension of bail and social workers probation report.”

Judge Raulinga adjourned proceedings until Wednesday.
