Cat Matlala’s lawyers threaten to interdict Ad Hoc proceedings

Lawyers for attempted murder accused and alleged criminal cartel kingpin, Vusimuzi “CAT” Matlala, have threatened to seek an urgent interdict to halt the proceedings of the Ad Hoc Committee investigating allegations raised by KZN Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Matlala’s lawyers gave the Ad Hoc Committee until at three o’clock this afternoon to make an undertaking that tomorrow’s Matlala testimony is postponed.

In a letter, Matlala’s lawyers argue that he has not had sufficient time to prepare his affidavit and requires additional time to prepare it.

They also argue that consulting with Matlala has become an absolute nightmare as they experience network challenges at Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Facility C Max prison.

They go on to say Matlala’s detention has negatively affected his preparation, health and mental capacity.

The lawyers allege that Matlala no longer comprehends some of the issues and at times he seems disorientated.

Ad Hoc Committee Chairperson, Soviet Lekganyane, did not want to immediately comment on the lawyer’s letter, nor whether the committee would acceed to Matlala’s postponement request.
