W Cape SAPS Commissioner briefs on efforts to combat gang violence
A SAPS delegation led by the Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile has briefed the provincial government on efforts to prevent and combat violence in the province. This being fueled primarily by organised crime and gangs.
Hundreds of people have been killed in gun-related violence in the province this year.
Premier Alan Winde chaired the briefing and described the violence as a big issue that affects many communities.
He says a number of residents are being directly and indirectly impacted by crime.
Winde says the provincial government want to work closer with SAPS to find a lasting solution. He says gangs cannot be allowed to run the Western Cape.
