Batohi details how Chauke withdrew charges against Mdluli

The National Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Shamila Batohi has detailed how suspended South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Andrew Chauke withdrew murder charges against the then Crime Intelligence boss Richard Mdluli.
This was despite the prosecution team opposing the decision, citing overwhelming evidence.
Mdluli was accused of the murder of Oupa Ramogibe, who was romantically involved with his estranged partner.
Advocate Batohi was testifying before the Nkabinde Inquiry, which is probing Advocate Chauke’s fitness to hold office.
โMr Mdluli’s arrest on the charges of murder, assault and kidnapping, etc., took place on 31 March 2011. But later, his lawyers made a written representation to Advocate Chauke, citing a fabricated case against him. He launched an application alleging fabrication. He cited General Cele, the then Police Commissioner, General Petrus and General Dramat.โ
