Lions flank eyes Bok return

Ruan Venter believes he is good enough to force his way back into the Springbok squad.
The Lions flank made his Test debut off the bench against Portugal in Bloemfontein in July last year, an experience he says only strengthened his hunger to return to the national setup.
“Ever since I was very little, I’ve dreamed of playing for the Springboks,” the 22-year-old said ahead of Saturday’s Vodacom URC derby against the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld.
“Getting that chance last year was something I can’t really describe. Once you’ve been there, you realise how much you want to be there again. It was a really special experience.”
PREVIEW: Boks bid to end season on high
The powerful loose forward has not featured for the Boks since, but insists that his game will do the talking.
“The only thing I can control is how I play,” he said. “Selection isn’t in my hands, but if I go out every weekend, prove myself and play as well as I can, the doors will open. I believe I’m good enough to get back.”
Venter has his sights on the 2027 World Cup but knows it won’t be easy.
“There’s a lot of competition, but I believe it’s within reach if I keep performing. I just have to give my best every week.”

For now, Venter’s focused on Saturday’s showdown in Pretoria as the URC resumes.
“It’s going to be a tough challenge, but we’ve prepared well. The Bulls are always physical, and we have to embrace that. We’re ready for the battle.”
