Cachalia praises the set-up of Madlanga Commission, Ad Hoc committee

The Acting Minister of Police, Firoz Cachalia says the establishment of the Madlanga Commission and Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee is important for the future of criminal justice in the country.

The two bodies were set up by President Cyril Ramaphosa to investigate concerns around national security.

This follows allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption, and political interference in the justice system.

Cachalia says crime is a direct threat to the safety of people and the growth of South Africa’s economy.

Meanwhile, Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee has indicated that businessman and alleged criminal cartel kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala was the last witness to testify this year.

This week’s proceedings were held at Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Facility in Pretoria, where Matlala is incarcerated.

The committee has been granted a second extension until the 20th of February next year.
