US set to host G20 Sherpas meeting in December without South Africa
The US will host the first G20 Sherpas meeting in Washington on the 15 and 16th of December 2025.
The US took over the G20 Presidency from South Africa on the 1st of December 2025.
In the invitation to the members of the G20, Washington has made it clear that South Africa will not be invited to the Sherpas meeting, before the end of the year.
Pretoria anticipated this hostility and much as the country is a founding member of the G20.
South Africa is expected to channel its energies on the next host that is the United Kingdom in 2027.
Trump’s hostility against South Africa will likely escalate next year.
However, the country is going to midterm next year just before the G20 leaders’ summit.
The outcomes of the midterm election in that country are likely to dominate the news ahead of hosting his counterparts for the important forum of Group of 20.
