Security measures set to increase at Senzo Meyiwa trial
The South African Police Services (SAPS) says security for the Senzo Meyiwa trial proceedings taking place at the High Court in Pretoria has increased.
Court proceedings were halted earlier Tuesday after police received intelligence about a group of individuals attending the trial with the intention of eliminating members of the judiciary.
Police then removed three individuals from the courtroom and took them in for questioning.
A case of conspiracy to commit murder has been registered.

National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the individuals were questioned and later released.
“We have received solid intelligence that there are a group of individuals who attend the Senzo Meyiwa trial proceedings with the sole purpose of looking for an opportunity to target certain officials that are working on this case. We have seized electronic devices to corroborate our evidence, and our teams are busy analyzing these gadgets. We know that it was targeted at the judiciary, at some of the court officials, at some of the prosecutors and some of the members of the investigating teams.”
