SACP vows to keep its status as a registered political party – SABC News
The South African Communist Party (SACP) has vowed to keep its status as a registered political party and to contest future elections in line with the resolutions of its previous conferences.
This follows the Independent Electoral Commission’s earlier notice to de-register the party with other 191 political which remain inactive.
The parties have until the 24th of March to make submissions to the commission detailing why they should not be de-registered.

The IEC said they did not fulfil their obligations by failing to indicate their continued existence.
But speaking to the SABC News, the SACP spokesperson Dr Alex Mashilo says they have made the IEC aware of the party’s continued existence as a political party and ready to contest all future elections.
“The SACP made the submissions a few days after receiving the notice from the IEC regarding its status as a registered political party. The submission by the SACP is in line with the resolutions of the party from its 15th national congress held in July in 2022, its Augmented Central Committee Plenary held in March and April 2023 and its 5th Special National Congress held in December in 2024 to stand for elections in order to address the crisis of the working class representation that has occurred in our country in absence of the reconfigured alliance.”
