Police probe fatal shooting of 17-year-old learner in Katlehong – SABC News

Gauteng police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old female learner in Katlehong, south of Johannesburg.

Police say two armed men tried to rob the pupil outside her home.

Police spokesperson, Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, says the motive remains unknown.

“According to information at hand, two armed men were seen running towards a charcoal Toyota Quest vehicle which they drove off with after the shooting. The motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage and no one has been arrested,” says Nevhuhulwi.

“The police request anyone with information who can assist with the investigation to contact their nearest police station or report anonymous tip-offs on MySapsApp which can be downloaded on any smartphone,” she adds.

Meanwhile, five suspects arrested for the killing of a Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department officer in Riverside two weeks ago are expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The officer was fatally shot multiple times outside her house by unknown gunmen.

Her son also sustained injuries during the shooting and was taken to hospital.

The suspects were found in possession of various weapons and firearms.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla says the breakthrough is a result of a tip-off given to officers.
