R21 reopened after Ekurhuleni Metro Police officers protest – SABC News
The R21 route towards OR Tambo International Airport in Ekurhuleni has been successfully reopened. Traffic flow has returned to normal and all lanes are now fully operational. This after Ekurhuleni Metro Police officers embarked on a protest this morning.
It is not clear at this stage what the protest is about.
Police and EMPD officers are working to reopen the N3 highway towards Germiston. City officials say they are continuing to monitor traffic conditions closely.
Earlier, traffic was backed up on the R21 towards the O.R Tambo International Airport in Ekurhuleni and R24 routes along the Albertina Sisulu Freeway.
Ekurhuleni Mayoral spokesperson Zweli Dlamini says they were not informed about the strike and they will continue to monitor the situation.
Other affected routes included the N3 Johannesburg bound, N17 Carnival City and N12 between Daveyton and Benoni.
Motorists driving from Pretoria toward the OR Tambo International Airport were advised to take alternative routes.
