Energy expert warns South Africans of risk of further load shedding – SABC News

Energy Expert Ruse Moleshe has warned citizens that the risk of rolling blackouts still remains. This follows Eskom implementing stage two load shedding on Wednesday that was suspended at 5am this morning.

Moleshe says the electricity grid is not completely reliable yet and with planned maintenance for winter, there is no significant reserve capacity.

“We always caution consumers to note that there’s always still a risk that something could go wrong, because the total system in South Africa, is not fool proof just yet. So, Eskom has got a significant capacity that is out on planned maintenance preparing for the winter period. When the breakdowns happen and they are significant, they have to use reserve or emergency capacity. When that is used to the maximum, you have nothing else to rely on.”
