The former Eastern Cape Safety and Security MEC , Dennis Neer will be laid to rest in Gqeberha today.

The struggle stalwart died at the age of 76 last week Friday after a long illness.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has accorded Neer a Special Provincial Official Funeral Category 2.

He was the first MEC of Safety and Security and was also the provincial secretary of the Congress of South African Trade Unions, COSATU.

Neer was also captured and tortured by the apartheid regime.

He played a pivotal role in the fight for freedom.
