Limpopo opposition parties warn against mismanagement of budget funds – SABC News

Opposition parties in Limpopo have cautioned against what they say is the mismanagement of funds allocated to various departments in the province.

Limpopo MEC for Finance, Kgabo Mahoai tabled the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) for the 2025 and 2026 financial year at the provincial legislative chambers in Lebowakgomo.

The total budget allocation for Limpopo Province has been increased from R81 billion last year to R88 billion this year.

The Department of Sports and Culture has been allocated over R800 million for the 2025/26 financial year.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Provincial Deputy Decretary, Dunani Baloyi believes that the department deserves more funds to assist youth involved in drugs.

“We are not even surprised. All the figures that they’ve been saying that we know that they’re not going to implement. If they’re going to implement it was going to be something, but now we are concerned about the budget that we are allocated to the sport and culture. (Our) youth here in the province (are) suffering, taking nyaope and everything. All those drugs, but now they give them R2,5 (million),” says Baloyi.

Meanwhile, United Africans Transformation’s MPL, Kobodi Maila says money allocated to departments must be used for the benefit of the public.

“The money that has been allocated should be utilized successfully, more especially in the public service where R15 billion has been allocated. What we are saying is that money should be used for the roads,” says Maila.
