Dirco delegation met with US officials to clear misconceptions – SABC News

The Department of International Relations has confirmed that a recent delegation to the United States led by Director-General Zane Dangor met with senior officials from the White House and State and Treasury Departments.

Dangor was initially in New York in his capacity as G20 Sherpa to brief the United Nations General Assembly on South Africa’s Presidency of the bloc and later travelled to Washington DC.

After successful engagements at the UN, Dangor and his team travelled to the US capital for what appears to have encompassed bilateral engagements with the USA.

According to Dirco’s statement, the SA delegation met with the White House National Security Council’s Africa Director, the Acting Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs as well as representatives from the US Treasury department during which a range of issues were discussed.

Some of the issues discussed included misconceptions about the violations of human rights for minority groups and detailed explanations around the implementation of the Land Expropriation Act particularly the question of nil compensation.

According to our source, it was also understood that the ICJ case against Israel would not be withdrawn.
