Mahikeng pupil dies after allegedly eating snacks from hawkers – SABC News

A learner from Mahikeng, North West, has died allegedly after eating snacks bought from street hawkers last Friday.

It has been alleged that two girls, who are siblings, between 8 and 10 years old, bought snacks from one of the hawkers next to the school at Ramosadi Village.

They subsequently complained about stomach cramps when they arrived at school.

The family blames the school for not calling for help on time.

One of the family members, who cannot be named to protect the minor, says, “We still have questions that we can’t answer because now the children are sick. One has passed on, one is in ICU.”

“The School Governing Body or the management of the school, even the principal they did not make an effort; maybe the one who passed on could not have passed on if they had called the ambulance. We gave them three phone numbers, but they did not call us to tell us that the children are sick. So, if it was not about this parent, it means we would have lost both the children.”
