MKP says had no knowledge of Shivambu’s visit to Bushiri – SABC News
The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party says its Secretary- General Floyd Shivambu’s visit to the self-proclaimed Prophet Shepherd Bushiri in Malawi was done in his personal capacity and was not sanctioned by the party.
Bushiri is facing a range of charges and has been declared a fugitive by South African law enforcement agencies.
He fled the country to Malawi in November 2020 after he and his wife were granted R200 000 bail.
In March, a Malawian court ruled that Bushiri can be extradited to South Africa to face justice.
The MKP says they had no knowledge of Shivambu’s trip.
The party says it has zero-tolerance for criminality, particularly gender-based violence (GBV) and exploitation of vulnerable communities by such a Christian believer, by individuals manipulating faith for personal gains or to evade the law.
