Mathale confirms officer’s resignation in Eldorado Park murder case – SABC News
Deputy Police Minister Cassel Mathale has confirmed that the South African Police Service (SAPS) management has received the resignation letter of Sergeant Mandla Buthelezi, the police officer accused of murdering his girlfriend, Chesnay Keppler, in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg, on Boxing Day last year.
Buthelezi, who remains in custody, is facing charges related to the fatal shooting of Keppler, a Gauteng Traffic Warden. His case is set to resume in the Protea Magistrate’s Court in June.
He reiterated that the SAPS is actively addressing internal misconduct, stating that disciplinary action, including dismissals, has been taken against officers found guilty of illegal behavior. The deputy minister assured the public that SAPS is committed to dealing decisively with members who tarnish the police service’s reputation.
