Historic Tokai Manor evacuated as Table Mountain fire spreads – SABC News

The historic Tokai Manor house in Cape Town, which is owned by SANParks, is being evacuated as a safety precaution. This is as the fire rages in the mountains above Tokai.

Helicopters have been water bombing the area since Monday morning. The manor house, which is a provincial heritage building, is one of SANParks’ administrative offices.

About 3000 hectares of vegetation have burnt in the fire since Friday.

The City of Cape Town’s fire and rescue services say they’re concerned about the thick, dry vegetation fuelling the fire.

Spokesperson Jermaine Carelse says the situation remains fluid, with air resources waterbombing and crews battling the blaze that started on Friday.

Carelse says the fire has not yet been contained.

“We urge the public to stay away from the areas in question. We are closely monitoring the situation, and road closures remain in place.”
