GP traffic officers remain vigilant amid drop in Easter road deaths – SABC News


Gauteng Roads and Transport MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela says traffic officers will remain vigilant after Minister Barbara Creecy released the 2025 Easter road fatalities statistics yesterday.

The figures show a 32% overall decline nationwide. Gauteng recorded a significant reduction from 52 road fatalities in 2024 to 22 in 2025. The MEC says that road safety education and awareness campaigns will continue across the province. She says the focus will be on Ga-Rankuwa in northern Pretoria today.

“The MEC still believes that through collaborative efforts by all stakeholders, the achievement of zero road crashes and fatalities in Gauteng. MEC further appreciates the efforts that have been put in by all law enforcement agencies who participated in the road safety campaign “ithoma ka wena” from RTMC, the Department of Community and Safety in Gauteng, to all Metro Police Departments” says Lesiba Mpya, MEC’s spokesperson.
