NPA to appeal decision to grant Ace Ngcobo, wife bail in fraud case – SABC News
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Western Cape says it will appeal the court’s decision to grant Premier Soccer League (PSL) General Manager Ace Ngcobo and his wife Salome bail.
They appeared in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court in Cape town yesterday when they were granted bail of R 50 000 and R 30 000 respectively.
The pair accused are facing three counts of fraud and money laundering.
The couple allegedly received about R15 million from PetroSA to build a school and to renovate a creche in the Eastern Cape.
They are also accused of falsifying documents and forging signatures.
NPA Provincial Spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila says, “We are not happy with the decision of the magistrate because when he made his ruling, he said the state does not have anything to say, of which that is not what we said.”
Ntabazalila adds, “We would’ve expected the magistrate to reject that application he made and call the IO (Investigating Officer) to take the stand and then allow us an opportunity to oppose the bail using the IO but that did not happen.”
The Ngcobos will be back in court on May 29.
