Limpopo police launch manhunt for suspects involved in infrastructure theft



Police in Limpopo have launched a manhunt for suspects after theft and damage to essential infrastructure at a local farm. 

Police in Witpoort near Lephalale said the incident took place between Thursday,  May 8, at about 3.30pm and Friday, May 9, at 4.30pm. 

The provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the unknown suspects gained unauthorised access to the property by cutting through the perimeter fence. 

“The suspects proceeded to target an electrical transformer, dismantling it and removing valuable components. The damage and theft were discovered by an employee during a routine security patrol of the farm. The estimated value of the damage and stolen items is thousands of rands,” Ledwaba said. 

The Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the incident in the strongest terms. 

“Attacks on our electrical infrastructure have serious consequences for our communities and economy. We are treating this case with the utmost priority,” Hadebe said. 

The police are appealing to members of the public who may have information regarding this incident to come forward.
