White House suspends work with G20 conference in SA: Washington Post – SABC News

The Washington Post reports that the White House National Security Council has ordered all agencies and departments to suspend work with the G20 conference that South Africa is hosting later this year.

The publication cites two sources familiar with the matter and who spoke on condition of anonymity.

This development emerged as the South African Presidency confirmed overnight that President Cyril Ramaphosa would travel to Washington next week to meet with President Donald Trump at the White House.

The move would be just the latest decision to undermine South Africa’s hosting of the G20 after the US Secretary of State and Treasury Secretary boycotted Ministerial meetings earlier this year following Trump’s Executive Order on so-called egregious actions in the Republic.

Trump earlier this week again leveled the accusation of white genocide against the government just as Afrikaner refugees arrived in the US and suggested he would not attend the G20 Summit unless the situation was taken care of.

The South Africa Presidency was hoping next week’s White House meeting would serve as a reset in the strategic relationship.
