The police captain accused of raping a female trainee has now been charged in a second sexual assault case.
The officer, who works as a police instructor, allegedly raped a 20-year-old trainee at his office at the SAPS Training Academy in western Pretoria earlier this month.
His bail hearing is set to resume in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Spokesperson for police watchdog IPID, Phaladi Shuping had this to say.
“The police captain training academy was charged for another case of sexual assault after a second victim came forward alleging that she was actually assaulted by the captain on the 17th of March 2025. The captain appeared at the Pretoria Magistatres Court on Friday facing charges of rape and sexual assault and the case was postponed to 29 May 2025 for continuation of the bail application,” says Shuping.
Meanwhile, a 47-year-old pastor has been sentenced to two life terms for the rape of a 12-year-old girl in the Edenburg Regional Court, in the Free State.
Police Spokesperson, Martin Xuma says the victim was staying with the accused when the rapes happened while his wife was working night shift.
Xuma says the rapes started in 2019.
“The victim reported the matter to the father who alerted the police. The accused was sentenced to double life imprisonment for two counts of rape and further five years for sexual assault. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm,” says Xuma.
