The Vodacom Bulls can exact revenge at Loftus Versfeld in the URC quarter-finals on Saturday, when Jake White’s charges face Edinburgh for the sixth time.

Runners up in 2022 and 2024, a third URC victory for the Bulls against Edinburgh will secure the Herd a home semi-final in Pretoria next week, as they cast an eye on advancing to the showpiece for a second season in a row.

Saturday’s clash is expected to be a blockbuster, given the battles between the teams already this season – the Bulls beat Edinburgh on the Highveld in round 2 of the competition, before the Scottish outfit triumphed in their EPCR Challenge Cup last-eight showdown.

With seven straight URC wins and only four defeats this season, the Bulls will enter the clash as favourites. However, White’s men cannot underestimate an Edinburgh side that has lost just once in five recent matches, while one ended in a draw.

Sean Everitt’s troops enter the match determined to snap a disappointing away-win record, which shows six losses in nine outings.

Edinburgh weathered a late Bulls surge to secure victory in their inaugural meeting at Murrayfield, after Henry Immelman’s early try and Jaco van der Walt’s three penalties built a commanding half time lead for the hosts.

Morne Steyn’s 79th-minute penalty edged the Bulls past Edinburgh in a Loftus thriller. Darcy Graham’s hat-trick couldn’t overcome Mark Bennett’s wayward kicking as the visitors outscored their hosts five tries to four.

The Bulls’ early dominance through Johan Grobbelaar and Elrigh Louw was countered by Edinburgh’s spirited fightback, but Steyn’s accuracy proved decisive.

Van der Walt haunted his former Edinburgh teammates as the Bulls launched their 2024-25 season with a solid victory at Loftus. The veteran flyhalf scored seven points while Canan Moodie’s second-half try proved decisive.

Yellow cards to Hanekom and Simphiwe Matanzima highlighted ill-discipline issues, but Boeta Chamberlain’s late penalty sealed the opening-round triumph for the South Africans.
