Petrol to decrease by 5 cents a litre, diesel by 36.9 cents – SABC News

The Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) has released the new fuel prices following the dismissal of the Economic Freedom Fighter’s fuel levy challenge.

The party had argued that Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana took an incorrect approach in his decision to propose an increase in the general fuel levy.

Godongwana announced the increase when he tabled a third revised budget in Parliament in May, this year.

DMR Director for fuel pricing Robert Maake says the increase will take effect from Wednesday.

“Both grades of petrol 93 and 95 octane will decrease by five cents a litre, diesel will decrease by 36.9 cents a litre, illuminating paraffin at retail level will decrease by 75 cents a litre. And LP gas will decrease by 89 cents per kilogram. The reason for this fuel price changes are as follows. The first one is the lower oil prices and stronger rand against the dollar during the period under review.”
