Stormers lock Ruben van Heerden is reportedly being targeted by the Barbarians to face the Springboks in Cape Town at the end of the month.
According to Rapport, efforts are under way to secure Van Heerden’s services for the 28 June clash. The 27-year-old has attended several Bok alignment camps, but remains uncapped and was overlooked for the 54-man squad named by Rassie Erasmus last week.
He recently earned recognition as the Vodacom URC’s Tackle Machine after recording a league-leading 98% tackle success rate from 171 attempts during the regular season.

However, it is understood his Baa Baas participation requires approval from Stormers chief John Dobson, with player welfare regulations mandating eight weeks of uninterrupted rest following URC commitments.
The invitational side has confirmed veteran Ireland prop Cian Healy and All Black loose forward Shannon Frizell for the Cape Town Stadium fixture, joining former All Black captain Sam Cane and Irish stalwarts Peter O’Mahony and Conor Murray.
