Nongqunga replaces Zungula as ATM president – SABC News
Professor Caesar Nongqunga has been announced as the new president of the African Transformation Movement (ATM), replacing Vuyolwethu Zungula.
The party announced the move in a statement, saying the decision was made by the National Executive Committee to separate the roles of party advocacy and organisational building.
Zungula has been President of the ATM for seven years.
ATM’s spokesperson Zama Ntshona says Zungula will focus on the ATM’s Parliamentary duties whilst Nongqunga will focus on the party’s growth.
“Under President Zungula’s stewardship, the ATM has grown from its modest beginnings to a formidable force advocating for economic transformation and the upliftment of the marginalized communities across our nation. President Zungula continues as party leader in Parliament, where he will continue his tireless work in advocating for the emancipation of the downtrodden and in ensuring that they have voices ahead. As we welcome Professor Cesar Nungunga into his new role as president, we acknowledge his profound vision for the ATM.”
Ntshona says after a thorough evaluation, the party had to make necessary changes.
“We then had to look at the party itself and the rate at which we are growing and upon looking at those it then downed on us as that we need to separate the roles with the president so as to allow better advocacy and for better party growth as we are going towards 2026 and 2029. Because if it’s just advocacy alone and you’re not speaking about numbers you’re not going to speak to the real ideals especially as mandated by the people of this country.”
