Pollard tees up Premiership final
A weekend that showcased SA talent saw Leicester flyhalf Handre Pollard and Bath prop Thomas du Toit book a showdown in the Premiership final.
English Premiership:
Johann van Graan’s Bath booked their place in the Premiership final with a 34-20 win against the Bristol Bears at the Recreation Ground. Bok prop Thomas du Toit and Frans van Wyk packed down for Bath, while Benhard Janse van Rensburg crossed the whitewash for the Bears.
Six South Africans battled it out in the Leicester Tigers and Sale Sharks semi-final clash. Former Bulls duo Hanro Liebenberg and Handre Pollard prevailed, with Pollard contributing six points from the tee in the Tigers’ 21-16 win. Ernst van Rhyn and Jean-Luc du Preez scrummed down for Sale. Rob du Preez started in midfield, scoring in the third quarter, before brother Dan featured as a replacement.
French Top 14:
Eight-cap Springbok Uzair Cassiem started at No 8 for Bayonne in an 18-10 home win against Toulon. Former Kings prop Pieter Scholtz was named on the bench for Bayonne.
Former Sharks centre Rohan Janse van Rensburg started in midfield for Champions Cup winners Bordeaux Begles in their 59-28 victory against Vannes.
Arno Botha packed down at No 8 in Lyon’s 47-34 defeat to Racing 92 at the Stade de Garland.
Springbok scrumhalf Cobus Reinach ran out for Montpellier in a 23-10 home defeat to Clermont. Reinach was supported by flanker Nico Janse van Rensburg and former Bulls centre Jan Serfontein.
Former Stormers speedster Dillyn Leyds started on the wing for La Rochelle in their 32-18 loss to Pau at the Stade du Hameau.
Flanker Jacques van Tonder and halfback James Hall featured in Perpignan’s thrilling 42-35 win against Toulouse.
Former Sharks centre Jeremy Ward started in midfield for Stade Francais in a 21-10 win against Castres Olympique.
