Thunberg departs Israel after Gaza blockade protest detention – SABC News
Swedish activist Greta Thunberg has departed Israel after being detained aboard the Madleen, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said.
This comes after Israeli forces had taken command of a charity vessel that contained 12 activists who had attempted to break a naval blockade of the Gaza Strip on Monday.
The boat had left earlier this month from Italy, with a clear aim to deliver humanitarian aid in the besieged enclave.
Thunberg, alongside three other activists, had been taken to the Ben Gurion Airport on Tuesday morning ahead of their deportation.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement that those who refused to sign the deportation documents were to be brought before a judicial authority to authorize their deportation.
Meanwhile, more than fifty-four thousand Palestinians have been killed since the war between Israel and Hamas broke out nineteen months ago.
