Western Cape parents urged to confirm school placements for 2026

As parents await placement for the 2026 academic school year, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has urged parents not to feel disheartened if they have not received placement yet.

The on-time admissions window for Grade R, 1, or 8 in 2026 closed on April 15, 2025, but the online admissions system remained open for late applications.

The late online applications for Grades R, 1, and 8 closed on May 16.

Western Cape MEC David Maynier has advised parents and guardians to note that they are still in the very early stages of the placement process.

“We still have 21,600 parents who are double-parked on the system with more than one successful offer. We urge these parents to confirm their choice of school as soon as possible, so that the remaining places can be offered to other parents,” Maynier said.

He said this would allow approximately 36,000 places to still become available for other parents.

Schools have started making offers of acceptance to parents from May 30, 2025, and parents will need to confirm their acceptance by June 17, 2025.

“New offers are being made to parents all the time, and schools will continue to fill their remaining places until the end of July.  We encourage parents to keep in touch with schools to be considered if additional places open up,” Maynier added.
